Ring of Elden holds nothing back to challenge its aspiring players to become Elden Lord. From a colossal tree sentry just outside the tutorial area to a witch demigod queen summoning spirits, players will be tested to their limits. To aid in their journey to the Elden Throne, players can upgrade their weapons with special items called Smithing Stones. Ranging from base level 1 to endgame level 8, these stones can be given to the Smithing Master Hewg at Roundtable Hold. It will enhance the player’s weapon, increasing the damage it can inflict.
Forging Stones can be found scattered across The Lands Between in its abundance of dungeons or dropped by its enemies. Their most reliable source, however, comes from the Roundtable Hold’s Twin Maiden Husks. When given specific items called Bell Bearings, Husks will increase what they sell based on the bearing. Thanks to them, players can actually have all of the items available for purchase from the many hermits in the game in one convenient place. However, in order to purchase Smithing Stones, players will need four specific bell bearings.
Raya Lucaria’s Crystal Tunnel Bell Rolling
The first forge miner bell bearing is found at Raya Lucaria Crystal Tunnel, located in the Liurnia region of the lakes northeast of Raya Lucaria Academy. To get the Bell Bearing, players will need to go through this mine and through the yellow mist at the end. On the other side of the mist is a boss fight with a blue Crystalian.
Players are recommended to summon a Spirit Ash to relieve them of the heat a bit. Attacks will be deflected for the first half of the fight until the boss has been staggered once. Using guard counters and strong attacks will help counter the Crystalian’s strong spin attacks and unwavering defense. After breaking through the defense, players can start dealing high damage. If defeated, the Crystalian will drop the Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing 1. At the Twin Maiden Husks, it will unlock Smithing Stones 1 and 2 as well as Glintstone Scraps. These stones will allow players to upgrade their standard weapons from +1 to +6.
The Altus Plateau Bell Roll
The second Bell Bearing is in the Altus Plateau region. To access this region, players must ascend the Great Dectus Elevator by finding the two Medallion halves. Once there, players should head to an area called the Sealed Tunnel, accessible at the southwesternmost point of the small lakes surrounding the royal capital of Leyendell. Players must use the rock structure that splits the lake in two to descend into the water area. The tunnel contains many false walls that players can pass through by hitting their weapon, jumping, or rolling.
A chest can be found in the first hidden room, just west of the Sealed Tunnel Grace Site, which contains the Smithing-Stone 2 Miner’s Bell Bearing. When given to Twin Maiden Husks, it will grant access to purchase 3 and 4 Smithing Stones from them as long as they have the runes to do so. This will allow players to upgrade their weapons up to +12.
The top of Bell Bearing Giants Mountain
A significant amount of story progress is required to access the Mountaintop of the Giants region where the third Bell Bearing resides. This freezing environment can be accessed via the Great Rold Elevator after defeating a certain boss in the Royal Capital and obtaining the Rold Medallion from Melina. After reaching the mountain peaks, players should head to the ruins of Zamor, east of the top of the elevator.
The Ruins contain a large number of tough enemies known as the Knights of Zamor who can pose a threat if outnumbered. Players must attempt to attack them one at a time to reduce their threat, or else bypass them. Next, heading to the southwest corner of the ruins, players will need to locate a staircase in the cellar to access the chest that contains Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing 3. This item will unlock Smithing Stones 5 and 6, and weapons will be improved. at +18.
The rolling of the dragon temple bell
The final bell-rolling for regular Smithing Stones is in the very last area of the game – aside from a secret locked area behind two medallion halves. After defeating the Fire Giant and speaking with Melina at the Forge of Giants, players will be transported to the Crumbling Farum Azula. Players should head to a place called the Dragon Temple. Inside the central hall, players will be ambushed by the Godskin Duo, a particularly difficult boss battle against two bosses at the same time.
Players may have already had experience with these two if they have explored The Lands Between. The trick to beating the Godskin Apostle and the Godskin Noble is to use the pillars in the room to separate them. Distracting them with a Spirit Ash summon will also help. When defeated, they drop Smithing-Stone Miner’s Bell Bearing 4. When the item is given to Twin Maiden Husks, players can purchase Smithing Stones 7 and 8, allowing them to upgrade their weapons up to +24 .
To get their latest upgrade, players will need to obtain an Ancient Dragon Forging Stone from the wilderness of The Lands Between. While these Forging Stones cannot be purchased, they can be found in Crumbling Farum Azula, Consecrated Snowfield, and Haligtree areas. This stone will enable the final upgrade level of +25, giving players the most upgraded version of their weapon possible. With all the bells rolling, the Tarnished Hero can easily upgrade as many weapons as they want, or even buy extras to take home if they want to start a New Game+.
