Here’s how to get and use every bell roll in Elden Ring

Bell Bearing items are very important to players once they enter the middle and later stages of Elden Ring.

Bell bearings play the same role as Umbral Ashes in Dark Souls 3. While previous FromSoftware games left a player in a very sticky situation if they angered or killed a merchant, Dark Souls 3 changed things up. After a Merchant died, players could pick up their ashes and give them to the Firelink Shrine Handmaiden, who then absorbed their inventory. This still ended the NPC’s questline but allowed players to lessen the blow of losing a merchant.

Bell rolls work very similarly in Elden Ring. Although there aren’t as many merchants that can be killed, there are. Along with this, there are others that can be found around the world to expand the merchant stock of Roundtable Hold.

Here’s how to use bell bearings and which ones to look for.

What do Bell bearings do?

Bell Bearing items expand the inventory of Twin Maiden Husks in Roundtable Hold.

Each Bell Bearing will add at least two new items to their shop. For the most part, the expanded offering includes various crafting materials and upgrade items. However, if the player brings another Merchant’s Bell Bearing, the Twin Maiden Husks will add a copy to their inventory at an identical price.

Unfortunately, this does not allow players to bypass limited stocks for certain items. For example, if a player depletes the inventory of Patches in Stonesword Keys, kills him, and gives his Bell Bearing to the Twin Maiden Husks, he will not add any more Stonesword Keys to his inventory.

Alongside these bell bearings are some that can be picked up from NPCs. Some of them are obtained at the end of a quest while others require the player to take them by force. Players are not encouraged to kill NPCs solely for their bell bearings, as these items will ultimately not grant the player access to more or different items, and many of these NPCs have more rewarding questlines. than to kill them immediately. Some of them die on other quests, so those Bell Bearings keep their inventories available from Roundtable Hold.

Use a bell roll to open the Smithing Stone, Dark Smithing Stone, and Glovewort Root stores in Elden Ring

Players can farm Smithing Stones in Elden Ring, but they can also buy them from Twin Maiden Husks after finding the correct bell bearings. It’s more expensive than just smashing enemies, but it’s much faster and allows players to experiment with more weapons.

Most of these bell rolls are attached to late game areas. Crafty players can get Somberstone Miner’s Bell Roll 1, which can be obtained as part of an early game sprint to get the Meteorite Staff. Ultimately, Elden Ring players are not recommended to rush to pick up Bell Bearings early. Although Dark Souls 3 allowed players to get upgrade items early on through the Ashes of Ariandel DLC, this is more of a chore in Elden Ring.
